End Citizens United’s Unrig Washington adds Powell to slate of candidates
OMAHA, NE — Denise Powell, Democratic candidate for Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District, has been named one of End Citizens United’s Unrig Washington candidates, joining a nationwide effort to clean up corruption, ban congressional stock trading, crack down on dark money, and reject corporate PAC influence.
Powell enters the program as one of the most people-powered candidates in Nebraska. Public FEC filings show she has raised $741,229 this cycle, including $589,921 from individual itemized donors, 65 percent of whom are Nebraskans. More than 88 percent of her itemized contributions came from Nebraska, underscoring the strong local coalition behind her campaign.
ECU’s battleground polling shows that by focusing on fighting corruption and championing popular reforms like those outlined in Unrig Washington, Democrats can win back the key voting blocs needed to flip the House next November. Powell’s inclusion in the program reflects her alignment with these reforms and her commitment to ensuring public office serves voters, not special interests.
By joining the Unrig Washington campaign, Powell becomes part of a slate of more than 120 Democratic candidates nationwide who are advancing transparency, accountability, and meaningful anti-corruption reform.
About Denise
Denise Powell is a former corporate executive turned small business owner and working mom who knows that a strong work ethic and a love of family and community is the Nebraska way of life. She also knows the Good Life is getting harder to come by. It’s why after Trump’s election she left a successful career in corporate America to focus on fighting for what makes Nebraska such a special place to live and raise a family. Over the past decade, she has supported hundreds of Nebraskans running for local office, protected our public schools and the families they serve, and helped stop extremists from passing abortion bans in the state.
Every day, we see more of our friends and neighbors struggling to make ends meet while Donald Trump and MAGA extremists are focused on trade wars that are increasing our cost of living and passing massive tax breaks for billionaires. Strong families, strong businesses, strong communities – they ALL require work and investment, but everything we’ve fought for here at home is under threat. From dismantling Medicaid and making it harder for seniors to get the benefits they’ve earned, to dismantling education, from the University of Nebraska to our public schools, to attacking our veterans and ripping away women’s rights — Denise is running to fight for the people of Nebraska. We don’t need lip service from politicians, we need action.
